What Happened To Storkville?

It all started a couple of weeks ago. I kept seeing this female Bluebird going in and out of my Bluebird bottle. Well, come to find out that she had two baby Bluebirds she was feeding. I thought this late in the season? Highly unheard of. While we were gone this past weekend something happened. I am thinking either heat, or dry conditions for no food. I walk out Monday morning to hang my laundry up and what do I find, but two baby Bluebirds on the ground. I am heart broken. This is nature in reality. Anyone have any other ideas?

Busy Weekend
This past weekend was spent in Cincinnati. Brad and Meagan are moving, believe it, or not next door. Great move! The house is signifigantly bigger with an extra bathroom. Which makes life manageable. This house has great bones. The major move will be over Labor Day, but we moved the washer and dryer. Set up the kitchen, and other miscellaneous items.

Friday night we did get chance to go to the Levee. It's a great place. I am just amazed everytime we visit Cincy at all the homes, restaurants and malls they have to offer. It has really built up since I lived up there.  I would go bananas. Spend money like water, and have two closets full of clothes. I just have one now. David would definately have to handle the check book.

Anyway, we had a great time. Good luck with the final move! Thankfully its just next door.

World in for Next Big Depressing Fall of USA the Bubble. We see global financial crisis tsunami every two years 1998,2001,2006,2008 and again 2011, Why? What is wrong with the fundamentals? Is our global economy riding on another BUBBLE? What can stabilixe it? We need to stop spending money!! Why is Obama on vacation in Martha's Vineyard? Who does he know? He wants us to all tighten our belts, but he is out there spending like no tomorrow.

The possibility of a double-dip recession is worrying state officials and all of us who thought they had put the worst downturn since World War 11 behind them. State officials say the bleak economic news of the past few weeks has triggered new alarm just as jobs are slowly increasing and tax collections are improving. Some economists have said that last week's stock market swings, reports of slow growth and the downgrading of U.S. debt by Standard Poor's could be early indicators of the first dual recession.

What we all need to remember is that God is in control, and whatever happens, happens. He takes care of his own.

Jesus says to me, 'I will take your exhaustion and uncertainty and turn it into a calm expection'.

The Morning Of The Bees

The Mourning Of The Bees
Ok! So I am looking at my email account, and there is a news letter from Brushy Mountain Bee Farm, Quote:"Not to scare folks, but I have getting numerous reports from people of dying colonies as a result of starvation. The honey flow has been terrible this year and the colonies are suffering. The good news is that you can fix this. FEED! FEED! FEED!
So I am measuring in my kitchen 1 quart water to 1 quart sugar. I go outside to check on the bees and below is what I found. Hundreds dying! Am I too late? Each hive has a gallon feeder on it now. Trying times for bees and me!
Happy Monday!

Growing Flowers

Why grow flowers? Flowers are magic-literally magic-irresistible to birds, bees, wasps, other flower pollinators and even humans. There are as many reasons to grow flowers as there are flowers. Still, the reasons why I grow flowers are, flowers make the world more beautiful. Flowers smell good, and good smells make you happy. Flowers can help weed control. Flowers tell you the season. Flowers attract predators that will help kill the pests in your garden.

The growing of flowers necessitates a lot of patience, love and care. Growing a flower garden is an exciting adventure altogether for those who are really crazy about nature. Growing flowers is an art, it creates a wonderful and beautiful world around us.

Above are just some of the flowers that are blooming in my yard. Aren't they beautiful!

Space, What To Do!

David put more shelving in the utility-laundry room for me. You can't have enough storage. With the new houses they are building storage area is lacking everywhere.
My utility room lacks space for large shelves. We chose open shelving. Single, open shelves of smaller length can be installed wherever there's room.
Now I have more room to stack extra canned goods and my home canned produce.

I love it!

Traditional clay covered straw skep hives in the Basque region

You Can Grow Bees Or You Can Grow Honey

I've really enjoyed my first summer keeping bees. Working with, observing and enjoying. Before I started I read a lot about the subject. You have to feed bees and it is more expensive than you would think. With sugar at $3.00 for 5 pounds, and feeding a quart of water to a quart of sugar, it goes real fast. Bees make honey of course, but they also eat honey.

I have come to the realization that I don't think I am going to get honey this year. I checked my hives this morning and the frames are empty. How disappointing! I have tons of orders and no honey. I know it has been a bad season. As a matter of fact I hear from the old guys who have kept bees for years that this is the worst year they have seen in a long while. I would have to start beekeeping this year! Welcome to the real world.

The Bet Is On

Well, those of you who bet that Alex would stay with us for the weekend were right. Now we have to try and find time for all three of the grandchildren to spend time with us. Life just seems to get busier for us. I can't understand these people who have nothing to do. When I just take a day off for myself, I play catchup the whole week. Going back to the subject of keeping your grandchildren. It is not the same as raising your children. We have rules, but we try to make it fun and memorable. I do believe that grandparents play an important role in the life of their grandchildren. Looking at these pictures I think Alex really enjoyed himself. Wouldn't you agree?

T.G.I.F.

Hip, Hip, Hooray! I am up to 2 miles four times a week walking and jogging. My knees are a little sore, but I am loving it. I haven't quite figured out what I am going to do once winter sets in, but I guess I will cross that bridge when it comes.

Well now, whats' this I here about the First Lady writing a book about gardening. Apparently it features her family's favorite healthy recipes, the White House south lawn garden and the benefits of healthy eating. Scheduled to drop April 2012. Will you buy it?

Just in case Alex doesn't want to stay the weekend with us Landen is on standby. Alex has good intentions, but at the last minute chickens out. Although he has spent one night with us a couple of months ago. I have his suitcase packed at the house waiting for his arrival. I am taking bets. Will he, or won't he. Will let yo know the vote Monday.

Happy Weekend Everyone!

The Dash

For it matters not how much we own; the cars...the house...the cash, what matters is how we live and love. And how we spend our dash. So think about this long and hard... Are there things you'd like to change? Most definitely! For you never know how much is left, that can still be rearranged. If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and real. And always try to understand the way other people feel, and to be less quick to anger. And show appreciation more. And love the people in our lives like we've never loved before. If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile...remembering this special dash might only last a little while.

On a lighter note, I have started walking a mile 4 times a week, with jogging in between. Dylan has been going with me on his scooter. It is just so nice to have someone along that you can talk to, making the trip more meaningful. That way, Dylan and I can catch up on what is going on in his life, and maybe I can give him a few words of wisdom. I would like to walk 2-3 miles at a time, but I have to work up to it. Least I say, I am certainly enjoying it.

Click to show "Barnes & Noble" result 5

News Alert
Barnes & Noble has been under attack from Amazon for years whether it be the physical bookstore retail model, or e-books and e-readers. Now the company is evaluating"strategic alternatives" including a possible sale.

In the short-term, the Barnes & Noble news certainly boosted shares, up roughly 25 percent to $16.04 after hours.

In the long run, it remains to be seen whether a Barnes & Noble sale or effort to take it private will bolster its efforts against Amazon. The e-reader stakes are getting higher and perhaps Barnes & Noble's management will have an easier time making big bets without quarterly scrutiny. At the very least, Barnes & Noble's statement indicates that it thinks it deserves more credit then it is getting.

Open House At McNeil

Excitement filled the hallways last night as we attended open house at McNeil Elementary. It is a wonderful time when parents and grandparents alike meet each child's teacher. This makes the child comfortable for that crucial beginning. Looks like the boys have great teachers for this coming school year. Have a great year boys. Above are some pictures David took. Enjoy!
