You Did It Bessie!
Can you believe it! Five chicks hatched so far. I brought two in. I am concerned that the other three may not live. It is 25 degrees out there. They are under her now, but what about tomorrow. I am emailing the hatchery, for what good that will do me.

Look! Another one hatching. Bessie you have outdone yourself. There are 3 eggs left in the nest. I will let you know the outcome.

From McMurray Hatchery
She should be able to keep them warm enough.  Be sure the chicks can not get to the layer feed.  Provided a small dish of chicks starter feed for the chicks, it is ok if the hen eats the chicks feed instead of the layer feed.  You will also need to be sure the chicks have drinking water available (you may need to use a small waterer that they can drink from easily).  The hen will teach the chicks to eat and drink.

What Is This?
This is some story. Ok, so I have a hen that got out of the chicken yard, and I couldn't get her back in. I have been noticing she is missing from time to time. So I go snooping around, and come to find out she is setting on eggs in the side yard. Hiding in the tall papas grass, are these five small eggs. I commence to pick her up and clip her wings in the garage, and she escapes. Up she goes on this tight rope. What to do now? I call David, and tell him that when he comes home not to open the garage door. I don't want her to get out. By the way, this hen is only six months old and has just starting laying eggs. I imagine these five eggs are her first and only.

The Nest
I disposed of the eggs. To make a long story short, David held her while I clipped her wings. We put her in the chicken house last night. This morning she was looking chipper, and hanging out with all the other hens in the yard.

Good health and peace of mind are easily within the reach of anyone who is willing to invest just a few minutes a day in the practice of yoga and meditation. A large volume of research, as well as the experiences of millions of practitioners worldwide stand as testimony to this. Let’s take a look at four ways, yoga and meditation can change your life completely.
#1 Improve Your Flexibility
This may seem rather obvious, considering that hatha yoga involves all those postures and asanas. But hatha yoga also allows one to improve posture, and do away with a range of bone and muscle-related issues. Of course, if you happen to be suffering from any physical ailments, always check with your doctor first before getting into yoga.
Hatha Yoga is also only one of many types of yoga. Other forms of yoga also help one with flexibility, and can also do a lot for one’s mental outlook in life, which also reflects in the increased flexibility of the body.
#2 Weight Loss
Another no-brainer perhaps, but regardless of what sort of yoga you do, if it has been taught in the proper way and you stick to the practice, your weight reach its optimum state. If you started out with excess weight, yoga helps you lose it. If you started out underweight, yoga helps you gain some. Yoga for weight loss is a great option, because it also does away with any needs or urges to eat when the body doesn’t need food.
#3 Better Perspective
Yoga also works as a natural remedy for stress and anxiety, and can help you gain a balanced perspective on what’s happening in your life. By calming nerves and toning down our fight or flight response, yoga helps us look at both the pluses and minuses of a situation with greater clarity.
#4 Better Relationships
There has been a lot written about tantric yoga and sexuality, but that’s not what is being referred to here! By helping us gain a better perspective, yoga and meditation also allow us to relate better to people around us, whether friends, family, coworkers or even strangers. By eliminating the fight or flight response, yoga allows us to eliminate the attitude of suspicion that we might develop when working for our survival in the world. This helps us look at people and perceive them for what they are, paving the way for better relationships.

Dylan Discovering The Snow This Morning!
With ancient ties to North America, its no wonder that blueberries are one of America's favorite foods. Called "star berries" by the Native Americans for their five-point star shape, blueberries were an abundant resource, acting as a food and a medicine. The berries were dried to create a type of jerky that could be taken on long trips, similar to today's version of fruit leather. Natives also made dye from blueberry juice, using it to paint textiles and baskets.

Native to the region, blueberries were quickly adopted by the early settlers, who relied upon them when food was scarce. Learning from the Native Americans, early colonists made gray paint out of blueberries by boiling them in milk, using it to paint their homes.

Today, blueberries are still an integral part of our diet, playing an equally important role. Blueberries offer a variety of health benefits, including improving memory, protecting the heart, assisting with digestion and reducing the risk of Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Consuming them regularly keeps your brain sharp, and they even help shield us from the effects of toxic heavy metals.

radishes

Health Benefits Of Radishes
The health benefits of radishes are truly impressive. They are good for the liver and stomach, the kidneys and bladder, the lungs, the cardiovascular system, and the immune system. They purify the blood and eliminate waste, detoxify the body, and are an anti-congestive. They are used to treat and prevent cancer, jaundice, constipation, urinary tract and kidney infections, skin ailments, and more.

For medicinal purposes radishes are eaten whole, juiced, or concentrated and used for supplements to treat a variety of illnesses and conditions. Oil from the seeds is also used for medicinal purposes.

According to Organic Facts, the vitamin C, folic acid and anthocyanin's in radishes and the radish's ability to detoxify are responsible for its reputation for treating cancer - particularly "...colon, kidney, intestinal, stomach and oral cancer." They also state, "...the isthiocyanates found in radishes have a major impact on the genetic pathways of cancerous cells. They alter the pathways so much, in fact, that they can cause apoptosis, cell death, thereby eliminating cancerous cells from reproducing."

Use radish juice to treat bug bites or bee stings. It will help with itching as well!

A Birthday is an occasion when a person celebrates the anniversary of their birth. Happy Birthday Landen and yours truly!
In many parts of the world an individual's birthday is celebrated by a party where a specially made cake, usually decorated with lettering and the person's age, is presented. The cake is traditionally studded with the same number of lit candles as the age of the individual, or a number candle representing their age. The celebrated individual will usually make a silent wish and attempt to blow out the candles in one breath; if successful, a tradition holds that the wish will be granted. In many cultures, the wish must be kept secret or it won't "come true". Presents are bestowed on the individual by the guests appropriate to her/his age. Other birthday activities may include entertainment (sometimes by a hired professional, i.e. a clown, magician, or musician), and a special toast or speech by the birthday celebrant. The last stanza of Patty Hill's and Mildred Hill's famous song, "Good Morning to You" (unofficially titled "Happy Birthday to You") is typically sung by the guests at some point in the proceedings. In some countries a piñata takes the place of a cake. An occasional activity is spanking the birthday individual, with one gentle "swat" for each year since birth.

peas-in-pod-monotone
Peas... One Of The World's Oldest And Healthiest Foods
I have been looking in my catalogs and have found out that the yellow split pea belong to the same family as lentils and are highly nutritious - high in both protein and fiber. A half cup serving of cooked split peas provides 110 calories, and 10 grams of protein. Most veggies are low in protein, so peas make an excellent source of protein for everyone. So make sure when you are ordering your seeds, to put down a packet of  yellow peas.

How to Improve your Family’s Health with Essential Oils

It’s hard to deny the power of plants, and humans have been using plants as medicine for thousands and thousands of years. Clove oil & rosemary oil were the most popular essential oil produced during the middle ages.
If you’ve ever opened the lid of a bottle of essential oil, then you are well acquainted with the powerful aroma that they carry. But don’t let the tantalizing scents fool you—these little brown bottles are much more than mere perfume.
Essential oils are powerful and have a mind-boggling array of uses. They provide  many natural properties that can benefit the body in many different ways. Herbal essential oils have anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-tumoral, anti-parasitic & anti-septic properties. They are unique in that they can cross the cellular membrane because their molecules are lipophilic, which is pretty amazing since antibiotics cannot do this and therefore, have no effect on viruses.
silo_orangesmTry this at home: Squeeze the peel of a ripe orange. The fragrant residue on your hand is full of essential oils.

Sittin' Pretty
Bessie is setting again. This is the second time this Winter. The first time she got off at 21 days, and no chicks. I know this is gross, but I cracked open the eggs to find baby chicks. Why did she get off? Surely she knew there were chicks in the eggs alive and well! This time she has till the 28th of this month. I emailed Murray McMurrray Hatchery, but never find their answers satisfactory. I suppose I will let nature take care of itself.

Komen
The breast cancer awareness group known as Susan G. Komen -- think pink ribbons emblazoned on everything during breast cancer awareness month -- has stooped to a whole new level of stupidity with claims that organic food may not be safe for women.

On its website, Komen claims that consumption of organic food is "a controversial issue," as if clean food is some novel concept that only recently emerged as a hippie fad. The group warns that women shouldn't necessarily opt for organic food over conventional because "research is lacking in this area."

"[C]laims of higher nutritional value and lower toxic contaminants in organic foods currently have little scientific evidence supporting pronounced benefits," claims the organization, which purports to be all about preventing and curing breast cancer.

These and other hilariously ignorant claims by Komen are clearly meant to deter women from making positive dietary changes that would actually help them avoid developing breast cancer. Instead, Komen would rather women continue scarfing down buckets of carcinogenic fried chicken from KFC and bottles of alcoholic Mike's Hard Lemonade, two Komen supporters that stand to suffer financially from women choosing organics instead.

As you may recall, Komen launched a ridiculous "Buckets for the Cure" campaign back in 2010 that Natural News initially thought was some kind of joke or parody. It turned out to be true -- Komen had partnered with fast food chain KFC to sell pink buckets of fried chicken to women in order to "end breast cancer forever."

The obvious derangement in this plan is that KFC's fried chicken is highly toxic, as the acrylamide chemicals produced during frying have been shown to spur the growth of cancer cells. Not only this, but KFC chicken is loaded with toxic monosodium glutamate (MSG), which is also a known cancer promoter.

A screenshot of Komen's "Buckets for the Cure" scam is available here:
NaturalNews.com.

Komen makes billions of dollars by lying to women about breast cancer

If this wasn't bad enough, Komen also partnered with alcoholic beverage purveyor Mike's Hard Lemonade, which released a "pinkwashed" bottle of its chemical- and alcohol-laden citrus malt beverage to raise awareness about breast cancer. And the Mars company also released pink-colored versions of its M&M's candy around the same time.

Ironically, both Mike's Hard Lemonade and pink M&M's are loaded with cancer-causing artificial colorings and processed sugars, which Komen not only endorses but refuses to admit could cause women to develop breast cancer.

And yet at the very same time, this fraud of an organization has the audacity to scare women away from organic food, which is really just normal food that people have been consuming for eons, long before the industrial revolution brought us all factory agriculture treated with deadly, cancer-causing chemicals.

Not surprisingly, Komen rakes in more than $55 million a year from seemingly antithetical sponsors like PepsiCo and KFC, which help pay Komen CEO Nancy Brinker's lavish annual salary exceeding $684,000. Komen is very much a for-profit organization, and it is now abundantly clear that the group is little concerned with actually helping women avoid breast cancer, which in and of itself is a multi-billion-dollar per year industry.

"Researchers [have] found that organically grown crops contain anywhere from 18-69% more antioxidants and 10-100 times less pesticide residue," explains Mass Report concerning the issue.

"Shouldn't an organization aimed to fight cancer be more aware of these types of things? Perhaps they are aware and they're just ignoring it? After all, how would they make $55 million from companies producing synthetic products if everybody started eating organic food?"

This week in a word? Take you pick, Cold, Rain, Today it is snowing. Gray skies fill this winters day. I took a picture of the chicken yard this morning. My chickens don't particularly like snow. They don't like to put their little feet in the white stuff as you can see. This flock is hanging out in the coop. The heat lamp is on and is filled with eats and water to drink.

Your Tongue Says It All
Remember as a child, you would look in the mirror, and stick out your tongue to see if it was coated. Which meant you were sick, and could stay home from school. Do you still do that today? I do! The texture and appearance of your tongue says a lot about the state of your health. A healthy tongue should be pink, and clean. But an inflamed, red, black (yuck) or white tongue could be the sign of other conditions such as thrush, or even worse. Since the tongue is a major indicator of bodily abnormalities, it is an important piece of the puzzle in determining how best to treat the patient.

Cartoon Eyes 1 by sven222 - female blue eyes

For Bright Vision
And to avoid potential problems down the road---food is a powerful ally. Blueberries and goji berries are chock full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory that substantially improve eye sight. Try to eat garlic, onions, shallots, coconut and legumes. These edibles fortify the lens of your eye, thereby reducing the risk of cataracts. Additionally, vitamins C and E along with the minerals zinc and copper are useful in maintaining healthy eyesight.

broke

thecommonsenseshow.com
An economic collapse is inevitable and it will come like a thief in the night. You will have virtually no warning. The collapse will be more massive than the 1929 crash! There will be no breadlines, no government welfare, no handouts and your pensions will be cut off as will your social security. You may or may not have a job to go to, but even if you do, who will cash your check? After the coming crash, our society will be reduced to trading and bartering. That is, if you have anything to trade or barter with.

R for Rhode Island Red
Do You Really "Eat Healthy"
Or do you just think that you do? You can eat salad every day, but if that salad has been sprayed with pesticides and watered and washed with fluoridated water, it's more than useless to your body----- Its downright damaging, and you can eat your "apple a day" to keep the doctor away, along with all your other fruit that is doused with pesticides. Your average diet is usually chock full of GMO's and cooked processed foods. Like I have been saying all along. Grow a garden and get plenty of those homegrown veggies in your system. You can't go wrong!

Micah's Dedication
The idea of dedicating a child to the Lord can certainly be found in the Bible. The rite is intended to be a public statement by the parents that they will train their children in the Christian faith and seek to instill that faith in them.

I Wish You Enough

May you have enough happiness to keep you sweet,

enough trials to keep you strong,

enough sorrow to keep you human,

enough hope to keep you happy,

enough failure to keep you humble,

enough success to keep you eager,

enough friends to give you comfort,

enough faith to banish sadness,

enough wealth to meet your needs,

enough determination to make each day better than yesterday.

Well, my friend, the blue hour is in full swing now. It won’t be long before the familiar pale yellow of winter sunrise appears on the horizon. Maybe it will have a salmon blush!

Have a safe and Happy New Year!

From The Little Acre That Could!
