I have been thinking about the water heater in the laundry room. I thought it was an eye sore. So out to Hobby Lobby I go. They have just about everything that you would want. I found this cool screen that does the trick. Nice looking and functional.
With all of this technology, and less of an emphasis being put on hard work and hands on activities, upcoming generations are increasingly losing their ability to take care of themselves. Worse, what happens should society collapse one day and suddenly smartphones and other forms of technology are rendered useless? What happens if the world instantaneously requires physical strength, commonsense, intuition, and just plain street smarts?

Spring Is Here
Spring flowers come along and cheer us up at a time when we most need it -- after we've somehow survived another long winter. Speaking for myself, it wouldn't be going too far to say that they help me convalesce as I recuperate from Old Man Winter's months-long blustery barrage. But if you're a landscaping novice, you should consider a couple of points prior to making your plant selection to help you decide how best to incorporate these angels of mercy into your yard:

I am just finding out what treasures I have in my own yard. Just a few to mention that our blooming now.

Clematis is blooming now. Actually I have 3 of them in the front yard.
Pansies! my favorite as far as Spring goes. My mother used to plant these in our yard when I was a child.
Redbud Tree! Beautiful blooms, but not so pretty leaves.
Blackberry cane! A friend at Bible Study gave me this thorn less cane.

Raspberry canes! My friend from yoga gave me 20 canes. I am placing them in the front yard where they can thrive in the sun.

The Glory Days Of Antibiotics Are Over..
Since penicillin was the first prescribed 73 years ago, it has saved millions of lives. But now its clear, thanks to the overuse of antibiotics, we've helped nature breed dangerous strains of superbugs that are, quite literally, killing us. Our medical system is being driven back to the late 1800's. A time when simple infections KILL!

Had an idea about putting pictures up of the rock quarry on my wall in the hall. Its history, and is archived at WKU Library

Dylan and I went walking in the back of our house last week and this is what we found! Four interesting trees. They look amazing.

A tree growing out of a tree.
A tree that is growing around a rock.
This tree is giving a high 5.

This tree has a stump for an arm.

Planting An Herb Garden
Like fresh herbs added to your recipes? Herb gardens are a great example of a layered look. The plants involved bring birds, butterflies and all types of insects, but the main thing about herb gardens is the fragrances of the different plants in bloom, the feel and touch of the plants. Herbs require little maintenance, yet can produce a bountiful harvest in very little space. Think kitchen windowsills and patio and porch gardens.

Green Bananas

I love green bananas. Now I know why. They are good for you!

Increases Satiety

High-fiber contents in green bananas help increase satiety and make you feel full longer, thus they help you eat fewer foods.

Weight Loss

Adding green bananas to your diet can help you lose weight. Resistant starch contents which increase satiety and make you feel full longer help reduce food intakes, thus they help you reduce caloric consumption.

Better Nutrient Absorption

The vast bulk of mineral absorption occurs in the small intestine. Pectin contents in green bananas slow down the chyme movement in the small intestines, thus it promotes better mineral absorption into the bloodstream.

In addition, short-chain fatty acids produced by the colonic bacteria via fermentation have been found to increase the solubility of minerals, thus it leads to better mineral absorption into the bloodstream.

Promotes Better Bone Structure

Taking lots of processed carbs including high-sugar diet can cause ‘bone scurvy’ (oxidative stress weaken bone matrices made of collagen fibers).

Alternatively, substituting these foods with cooked green bananas is thought to help prevent or slow down the bone scurvy. Green bananas contain many minerals for bone health that includes calcium, magnesium, manganese and phosphorus.

In addition, they offer antioxidant and anti-inflammatory tannins plus carotenoids and chlorophyll which help prevent oxidative stress that can damage bone matrices. I am sure green bananas also contain silica which is also vital for building and maintaining collagen fibers.

Fresh green banana is a good source of vitamin C but most are thought to lose during boiling, steaming or frying.

Short-chain fatty acids produced by colonic microbiota fermentation lead to better mineral solubility (fat-soluble minerals), thus they help promote better magnesium and

IRIS BED
An iris bed inherited with the house has an invasive weed/herb, tall grass etc. growing in it. I decided to weed the bed and put much between the plants to keep out the weeds. With a couple hundred varieties in several different colors and combinations, Irises are popular and easy to grow perennial. The varieties are grouped according to rhizome versus bulb types. The most common larger varieties are great at the back of the flower bed. They make great cuttings. For flower growers, there is a place in your garden for one, or several groups. But, be careful, as they spread quickly and can overcome other flowers. Ours is in the front yard and will make a beautiful showing when Spring comes..

How does your garden grow? Probably not with silver bells and cockleshells and pretty maids all in a row. Need inspiration? Just walk into the nearest forest, which is a few steps away literally. Consider the hundreds of plants and animals living in the yard before that house was built. It was nature! Water sources, feeders and nesting boxes further increase habitat value.

Don't you just love this picture? I am chomping at the bit to get in the soil and plant something. We moved in October, and with this house and 5 1/2 acres  there is no place for a garden. My wonderful neighbor across the road has offered me a plot of land to satisfy me. I am so excited. Of course it is in grass and will have to be tilled and worked with, but I am excited.

Silly Week At Micah's Preschool

Looks like fun days! Enjoy the weekend everyone.

The idea that I am merely the material body, that I am matter, just chemicals, leads to hedonism or a life centered around the sole purpose of sense gratification. This leads to frustration, which ultimately leads to thoughts of the desire to cease existing. Think about this!

It’s interesting how much talk there is these days about the outsourcing of American jobs overseas, but how little is mentioned regarding the insourcing of jobs to slave labor facilities (i.e. prisons) located here in our own backyard.

As America edges ever closer to becoming a corporate/fascist state, the fat cats are taking full advantage of its overcrowded, run-for-profit prison system.

Virtually every large American corporation benefits from prison slave labor, but some of the biggest offenders include the Pentagon’s favorite military contractors, such as McDonnell Douglas/Boeing and General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin, McDonald’s, Wal-Mart, J.P. Morgan & Company, Procter & Gamble, Wendy’s, and scores of others.

A century and a half after the Emancipation Proclamation, slavery continues to exist in America and no one seems to care. It may be hard to believe, but there’s no escaping the fact that prisoners in America are being forced to perform work against their will – the textbook definition of slavery.  Pantry
 Hall Bath
Funky Wallpaper
On with the renovation of our house. The first picture of our pantry was a welcome sight. I missed that perk in our last dwelling. It is a walk in and very spacious. Leaving me more room for my kitchen items in the kitchen cabinets. As a matter of fact, I have some cabinets that are empty. Imagine that if you will!
The hall bathroom hasn't been updated except for the mirror. I love the funky wall paper. My husband wants to paint the room blue. I can't quite see it.
