Thanksgiving at our house

Traditions are a big part of the Thanksgiving Holiday, and every American Family has their own way of celebrating. From stuffing the turkey to taking in a football game.
Does your family fight over the wish bone from the Thanksgiving turkey? Known as a "Lucky Break" the tradition of tugging on either end of the fowl's bone to win the larger piece and its accompany "wish". This dates to the Etruscans of 322B.C. The Romans brought the tradition with them when they conquered England and the English colonists carried the tradition on to America.

Last, but certainly not least, Thanksgiving is about giving thanks for the family and blessings of the past year. From pre-meal prayers to providing holiday meals to the homeless, the holiday is truly a celebration of praise and thanksgiving.

Alex and Grandma

Today is Thursday, and I am spending the day with Alex. As you can see our first stop is Wal-Mart. We just happened to stroll by the doughnuts, and of course we have to get one. They are soooo tempting. I finished up some last minute Thanksgiving items and we were off.

Reflecting

To God I am Thankful
I'm thankful for the caring friends
Who make me feel so glad
I'm thankful for a doctor's care
When I am feeling bad.
I'm thankful for my family
Who cheer me when I'm blue
I'm thankful for this country
And for our soldiers too.
I'm thankful for a sky of red
In early morning light
I'm thankful for the setting sun
And for the stars at night.
I'm thankful for a place to pray
And for the books I read
I'm thankful for a loving God
Who meets my every need.

Mondays child is fair of face,
Tuesdays child is full of grace,
Wednesdays child is full of woe
Thursdays child has far to go,
Fridays child is loving and giving,
Saturdays child works hard for his living,
And the child that is born on the Sabboth Day is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.

Weekly Wednesdays
I pick up my grandchildren at school on Wednesdays. It is our time to spend together. Follow us if you will: We usually go to Jackson's Orchard where our first stop is at the concession stand where the boys have a choice of an apple slush, candy apple, or a cup of ice cream. Yum !!!

We then proceed to the Cider Slide, followed by feeding the goats. The boys love to hand feed them while the goats (sorry mom) lick their hands. They love it! I usually pick up some cider and apples for baking and such.

This past Wednesday we went to the library. The boys love the computers. My husband then proceeds to take Dylan in the back room to tackle homework. Homework today is a lot different from homework when I was a child. But, gosh it seems they are learning too much too fast and its not sticking.

Here is the fun part. EATING!! We usally wind up at Chick-Fil-A, and the boys will go to the play place where they mingle with other children. It's a good place to let out the last of the energy left in them.

It is a special time that I cherish.

The Last Sunflower of the Season

I see you there in glory shining bright.
Sunflower, how I long to be like you!.
Glorifying God in all you do.

For your information:
Did you know that morning doves love sunflower seed heads? Yes! Toss them in the yard after you break them up or mow over them...
Caterpillars like sunflowers too!... and you know what that means!!! Butterflies!!!
