My Very Own Honey
I have been checking my hives lately and have seen signs of honey being stored in my supers. Well yesterday I go out fulled suited and find capped honey. I was so excited. First I was excited because I had honey. Secondly I am thinking to myself how am I going to get this honey out of these frames and into the garage? I have a Rubbermaid tub where I place 3 frames vertically, and then scraped the comb down to the foundation with a knife. That honey came flowing out. You talk about a high? I then strained the honey twice and packed it in pint jars.
I noticed there was still some honey that I couldn't get out, so I placed the frames outside so that it will be reclaimed by the bees. In doing so make sure this is done early in the morning or late in the leaving as the bees will aggressively harvest such a rich source. Care must be taken so that this is done at a time when food is not scarce, or else bees from differing colonies will fight over the honey. I plan on checking my hives next week for more capped honey. Will let you know the outcome.
