Expecting My Bees

Remember the feeling when you were expecting your first baby...running around cleaning the house, setting up the nursery, displaying all the cute stuffed animals you received from your baby shower, painting the crib, clean, clean, clean, arrange, arrange, arrange, then rearrange, range, range? For weeks or months the reality of having a baby keeps you awake at night thinking about everything from what the baby is going to look like, who the baby is going to look like, will it be a boy? a girl? The excitement of the unknown, a bit nervous, anxious, butterflies in your stomach...well, I feel this all over again except I'm expecting a shipment of approximately 20,000 bees!

Their new cribs are installed and in the back yard ready and waiting. Tomorrow is the big day. We will be picking our bees up tomorrow morning at 8:30 sharp. Who knew that all worker bees were female?... then again, not surprised. They basically do all the cooking, cleaning, feeding the babies while foraging for food. There's only one Queen bee to a hive and she's the only one with the ability to reproduce. She also determines the gender of the eggs she lays...now, that's power! Finally, the drones, the males. They are known to be good for one thing... and one thing only... they mate with a virgin Queen and then they die! What a way to go... with a smile on their faces!
Stay tuned for tomorrow. Big day! Try to get some rest.
