 Our New Addition

 Peaches on our peach tree

 Lazy Housewife pole beans

 Purple Hulls and Green Beans

Good gut bacteria (flora) should outnumber bad gut bacteria 85 percent to 15 percent

If you don't know it already, genetically engineered or genetically modified (GM) food means that the seeds, stems, leaves and produce all contain bug-killing and weed-killing genes so that corporations can try to increase their profits. You cannot wash these pesticides off. These genes continue doing their "work" in your body, in your gut, in your organs, in your heart, in your brain and in your digestive tract. For example, the BT corn genes are designed to dissolve the rootworm beetle's insides, so that when they eat corn, they either die or cannot reproduce. These bad genes, namely insecticides and herbicides, do not simply disappear or become inactive when humans consume them. These toxic, genetically modified genes dissolve humans' good gut bacteria, diluting immunity in what becomes a highly acidic environment.

Did you know that each of us has roughly 4 pounds of bacteria in our gut? That's why they call it a "gut bomb," when you eat a meal chock full of pesticides, including most gluten, processed sugar and hydrogenated GM oils, and you feel awful for 10 to 20 minutes, or even longer. Your gut and your central nervous system are thrown for a loop, trying to find the pathogens and poisons, all while your immune system is severely compromised, making it more susceptible to colds, viruses, bacteria and other infections – ones you may already have, that then take hold of you.

Four Reasons to put Herbs Your Nesting Boxes

  1. Wild birds use herbs as they build their nests to possibly shield the baby birds from bacteria.
  2. Many herbs act as safe, natural insect repellents and may help drive away flies, mites, or other pests in your coop.
  3. Some chickens like to munch on certain herbs, and certain plants may even act as laying stimulants.
  4. Herbs make your coop smell awesome and provide a little “chicken aromatherapy,” which is kinda fun…

I bet you find yourself sitting around the table calculating how much of the delicious meal you’re enjoying is homegrown too. Not only is it exciting to realize you’re eating food pretty much as local as local can be, but that you’re experiencing the fruit of your labors. It’s all coming together. All the blood, sweat, and many tears, right there on your plate. And it tastes darn yummy. I find that it challenges you to work harder to grow or raise more next time.
We finally got the rest of our beans in yesterday. We planted 6 rows of top crop. We are bean lovers here. I hope to can 50 to 65 pints. Lets see what happens. Happy Monday folks!

I love Summer! For several reasons! One, the fruits and vegetables at no other time of the year do you get as large an assortment of fabulously fresh, juicy and succulent produce. And a new baby chick. This hen has tried for two years with no luck until now. Brand spanking new. Right out of the shell. She is still sitting on two more eggs. Lets see what happens!

Relationship between human beings and honey bees date back to several thousand years.

Over 6,400 pottery pieces that had traces of beeswax and were used by early farmers were analyzed by researchers. It was expected that these containers were put to use for extracting honey from plundered honeycomb or the wax that could have been useful as fuel for lamps. Another thought is that these containers might have been used as artificial beehives, to keep the industrious insects and their sugary concoction in close vicinity.

The ongoing phenomenon of mysterious honeybee deaths is starting to raise alarm in the food industry, which depends heavily on bees to pollinate many critical crops. "Honeybee health and sustainable pollination is a major issue facing American agriculture that is threatening our food supply and endangering our natural environment,"

Today’s generation seems to be filled with more opportunities to compare ourselves with each other than ever before. We are constantly bombarded with social media feeds that tempt us to compare. Reality TV show us everything BUT reality. And advertisers tease us with promises that their products will provide perfection.

The reality is, comparison can compromise the individual calling and beautiful life God has given each of us.
If we spend more time looking at what others are doing or have, we could miss what we have and are supposed to do. Staying focused on what good things are happening in and through us will help keep this inner battle of comparison at bay.

Bloating is an issue caused by excess air in the intestines. One way to eliminate this problem is to determine its primary causes. Some potential causes are stress, poorly managed gut issue, and what and how you eat. By eating the right foods and avoiding certain things, you can eliminate the problem and have your flat tummy back.

Some of the things that you need to know about how to get rid of bloating are included in this article.

What you should avoid

Both smoking and drinking using straws can cause excess air to enter the body, causing bloating. To prevent the problem, quit smoking and do not use straws.

Also, avoid chewing gum as it adds more air to your digestive tract which can cause bloating and gas.

Limit your intake of fizzy drinks, like cola, beer and soda water, as well. Stay away from foods that contain high amounts of artificial sugars and salt. If possible, limit your bean consumption and make sure to eat small portions of the beans only.

Note that the foods you eat and the forms of liquid you drink can significantly affect the condition of your stomach; hence, it is best to limit the number of foods you consume and avoid overeating. Otherwise, the large intestine will have a hard time coping with the added load.

Also, before taking your next meal, ensure that you have given your body enough time to digest. This is possible by setting a 3-hour gap between each meal.

What you should do

You need to do three things here. First, allow yourself to burp and fart since they are the natural ways to release the excessive gas, causing you to bloat. Second, sit down when eating and consume drinks and foods at a slower pace.

"Age is not an excuse to do no exercise. It is well established that regular physical activity has a better overall effect on health than any medical treatment. But less than half of older adults achieve the recommended minimum of 150 minutes moderate intensity or 75 minutes vigorous intensity exercise each week.

Health experts have long recognized the fact that regular exercise can extend lifespan, but the new research indicates that even less exercise than previously believed is needed to achieve significant benefits; walking for just 15 minutes per day can reduce the risk of early death by 22 percent.
When you grow older, bones can become brittle and the muscles shorten. An elderly person can lose the balance and coordination that they have had their entire lives. Staying active helps keep the body flexible. Stretching routines will lengthen muscle tissue and help prevent wasting and shortening. Exercise can reduce incidents of arthritis and osteoporosis by increasing bone density and joint range of motion."

Exercise is also essential to maintaining a healthy heart in later life:

"Regular exercise helps to keep the heart muscle in shape and can ward off common cardiac problems. Exercising at even a light intensity will raise the heart rate and improve overall fitness. Cardiovascular training for the elderly increases respiratory intake and helps fight common illnesses, such as a cold or the flu. Vascular occlusion, or the blocking of arteries, can occur when you grow older. Exercise can help reduce the risk by lowering blood cholesterol."

Daily exercise will not only help you to live longer, but will also increase the quality of your life; you'll feel better and be able to enjoy your retirement years to the fullest.

First Atomic Bomb

DAYS GONE BY!
It's only been in the last one hundred years that we've become a consumption culture. Before then, by and large, we were farmers, we were craftsmen, and we were skilled individuals providing something for our communities. We created things. Now we consume them
Not only do we consume, but when we're done, we throw it away, which means we have a trash problem. It is said that 90 percent of everything manufactured this year will be in the trash next year. If all we do is consume and consume, we're destroying the planet for future generations. That's irresponsible and certainly not sustainable.

Coney Island

Cincinnati Ohio
Coney Island is a small amusement park and waterpark located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Anderson Township, on the banks of the Ohio River 10 miles east of Downtown Cincinnati.
I was talking to my son today about Coney Island. As a child, I have fond memories of the Sunlite Pool. My mother had a big family of 7 sisters. On special days, when the rides and drinks were half price we would all be there. Which was several times a year.  We spent the entire day and night till the park closed riding rides, swimming and fire works. Of course things have changed. That park now has a water park. I can remember mom would fry chicken or pork chops early that morning to have for dinner that night in the park pavilion. God only knows why we didn't get food poisoning. That food would set out all day. None of us ever got sick. Those were the days! I look back now, and I am reminded of just how much our family did things together. What a sweet and precious time.

Before you make that next sandwich, you may want to read the list of ingredients on your bread bag label – because there's a very good chance that it may contain carcinogens.

A food additive used in bread called potassium bromate has been in the international news lately. Indian health officials have recently called for a ban on the use of the additive, which has been shown to cause cancer in laboratory animals.

A testing of products in India found potassium bromate in 84 percent of 38 popular brands of bread, buns, pizza crusts and other baked goods.

Potassium bromate has already been banned in numerous countries, including the entire EU, the UK, Canada, China and Brazil.

Landen is visiting this week, and we are keeping him busy. Look at him go. He finished mowing the grass and did a great job. Way to go Landen.
The tomatoes I planted are doing quite well. There are 34 of them in the ground. I plan on making lots of salsa. Didn't get to plant my purple hulls yet, but plan to do so this week. The corn will also be planted. Hopefully the rain is finished, and the summer heat and sunny weather will be ahead of us. Happy hump day!

Since Bessie died and her babies were left alone. Tootlebug has picked up mothering these two. The three of them sleep together in a nest. Bessie would be so proud!
I canned 6 jars of beets Friday. Canning time has arrived and looking forward to putting up as much as I can to eat for the winter months.
Is there strife in your family? Maybe get-togethers are awkward or always end in an argument. Or perhaps you have stopped talking to each other altogether. Many things can stand in the way of true reconciliation: pride, bitterness, anger, resentment and miscommunication.

We can’t overcome these in our humanness, but instead we can cry out to God and tell Him we need His help.

It is only then that we can “get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:31-32, NLT).

The Lord created us to be in community with one another, including our families. To do this, we often need extra doses of grace and kindness! Some issues are tough and will take a lot of prayer and great discernment to work through. We can’t control what others think, do or say, but we can be responsible for ourselves.

Let’s take some time today to examine our hearts for bitterness, rage, anger and harsh words and determine if we’ve misunderstood the intentions of family members we are feuding with.

Lastly, let’s ask the Lord to clean our hearts so we can be kind, tenderhearted and forgiving. I think we’ll be surprised how different get-togethers, celebrations and family reunions are after God has cleansed our hearts!

What's your score? Did you answer "Yes" for one or more of the items on the list? I did.
But at least I never let my kid fall into a gorilla enclosure, right? I mean... who the heck does that?!?!
I mean, THAT is one heck of a mistake! None of the errors in judgement listed above are ANYTHING like that!

Or are they?

June In The Hive
This month is much like May, except the
hive will have more bees. The honey and pollen
flows continue. The days are long enough that
the bees can fly for 14 to 16 hours a day, and
they will.
There is now plenty of drone brood, which
is ideal for varroa reproduction. It’s too early to
treat for varroa, but it’s good to look for these
mites by uncapping and examining the capped
drone brood cells. (See the KSU publication
“The Varroa Mite: an external parasite of honey
bees”.)
Beekeeper Chores
Inspect the hive weekly if possible. Provide
extra honey supers as needed. Watch for queen
cells and destroy all that you find. The brood
should now fill many of the frames of two hive
bodies. An overcrowded brood nest can stimulate
swarming. To provide space you can spread the
brood frames apart, and insert one or two empty
frames. It’s warm enough now that there is no danger
of chilling the brood. The queen is looking for empty
cells all the time, and she will quickly fill these frames
with eggs.
If you are going to increase the number of
hives you have by making divides, May or June
is the time to

I love the green on the chicken house. We are painting our front door the same color.
Most people are aware of the negative effects of not getting enough sleep, but an Australian expert says that an afternoon nap is absolutely essential for functioning at full capacity.Taking a nap is vital, but it is important to get the timing right to derive the most benefits and avoid doing more harm than good.

"The best nap is really the 15-30 minute nap. It increases alertness, memory, cognition and mood .

However, too much napping can have the opposite effect, so be sure to keep it under half an hour. Sleeping for between 30 and 60 minutes is not ideal because your brain will think it is going into REM mode. Meanwhile, a nap that is longer than 90 minutes is not advisable because your brain will think it is headed into a full sleep cycle. This, she says, is why people feel a bit out of sorts if they're woken up after a nap of this length.

For those who are interested in the benefits of napping,  practice makes perfect. Heading to a dark and quiet place with as little stimulus as possible. Relaxing and concentrating on your breathing for about 20 minutes will be refreshing even if you don't manage to fall asleep every time.
